Long Beach Heritage Bus Tour

Long Beach Heritage Bus Tour

Join us, The Long Beach Island Landmarks Association, for our 5th annual Heritage Bus Tour of the Island of Long Beach and discuss its storied past.
From the early vision of Senator Reynolds, this “Riviera of the East” was transformed from a series of sandbars to a destination for the rich and famous.
After visiting the site of one of the world’s largest hotels, we will stop and talk about the building of the Long Beach Boardwalk and the Nassau Hotel.
Touring the “Historical Red Brick District”, we will point out many of the original stucco and red tile roof homes. The tour will continue to the neighborhoods of the West End, the Walks, and the Canals where the diversity of the different sections of Long Beach are highlighted.
Moving on to the former Lido Beach Hotel your narrator will speak of the large military presence on Long Beach during WWII as well as the famous Lido Golf Course, Lido Dunes, former Nike Missile Base and the beach clubs of Lido Beach.
We will visit Point Lookout on the eastern tip of Long Beach Island and discuss how it was once connected to Long Beach by the Marine Railway.
This tour will end at a home in the Historic Red Brick District that is on the National Register of Historic Places for refreshments.
The tour will be narrated by Mr. Douglas Sheer, a noted Long Beach Historian.
